CryoTEMPO-EOLIS coverage impacted by difference in CryoSat predicted and actual orbit

Reduced coverage of CryoTEMPO-EOLIS Svalbard product in recent months

Due to a difference between the CryoSat predicted and actual orbit, as noted in this news article, the coverage of the CryoTEMPO-EOLIS products has been impacted. This appears to affect mostly the products over Svalbard, however, other areas may be affected too. Low coverage has been noted in the Svalbard gridded product which covers the Austfonna ice cap; a significant decrease in coverage can be observed from June 2023. We expect this to be resolved in the coming months.

Comparison of coverage of CryoTEMPO-EOLIS gridded product for Svalbard. Left: Gridded product for December 2022 with almost full coverage over the Austonna ice cap. Right: Svalbard gridded product for August 2023 with reduced coverage due to the difference between the CryoSat predicted and actual orbits.
